Byron's Markets: Where Locals Go on the Weekend

There's a rhythm to a Byron weekend, and for many locals, it starts at a market. More than just a place to shop, the region's markets are where the community gathers - slow mornings, live music, and stalls run by the people who grow, make and bake everything on them.

Byron Bay Markets

Held on the first Sunday of every month at Butler Street Reserve, this is the region's largest and best-known market - a mix of fashion, art, food and live music that draws both locals and visitors. Arrive early to beat the crowds and the heat.

Bangalow Markets

On the fourth Sunday of the month, the nearby village of Bangalow hosts a smaller, quieter market under the trees, well suited to a slower morning, with a strong focus on local produce, handmade goods and small-batch everything.

Mullumbimby Farmers Market

Every Friday morning, Mullumbimby's farmers market is where the region's growers sell direct - fresh produce, local coffee and a genuinely local crowd, with far fewer tourists than Byron itself.

Making the Most of It

Bring cash where you can, arrive before 9am if you want the pick of the produce, and leave room in your morning to simply wander, the markets reward a slow pace more than a shopping list.

Whichever one you choose, it's easy enough to build a full morning around and an easy way back to Hide to put your feet up afterward.
