A Spring Guide to Byron: Best Beaches, Light and Blooms

As spring settles over Byron, the light softens, the days stretch longer, and the region shifts into one of its most underrated seasons, all the beauty of summer, with none of the crowds.

The Beaches

Spring is arguably the best time to enjoy Byron's beaches at their quietest. Wategos remains a favourite for its calm water and surf, while Tallow Beach offers long, uninterrupted stretches of sand for those after a quieter walk. Clarkes Beach, just a short stroll from town, is ideal for a slower morning swim before the day heats up.

The Light

There's a particular quality to spring light in Byron, golden and soft in the early morning, long shadows stretching into late afternoon. It's a season that rewards an early start, whether that's a sunrise walk to the lighthouse or a coffee on the balcony as the town wakes up.

The Walks

Spring is the ideal time to take on the Cape Byron Walking Track, with cooler mornings making the full loop far more comfortable than the humid summer months ahead. It's also one of the best windows to spot the last of the whale migration from the headland along the way.

Before You Go

Pack layers - mornings can still carry a chill, even as the days warm up, and take advantage of quieter beaches and shorter queues before the summer rush arrives in December.

Spring is also one of our favourite times to welcome guests at Hide: longer days, open windows, and a Bathhouse that feels just as good in the spring sun as it does in winter.
